Overview

Axie Infinity is a community where members buy digital pets called Axies and use them for in-game economic activities, including exploring and breeding them with other Axies. Each Axie is an NFT.

Users need to buy three Axies using an Ethereum-based cryptocurrency to play the game. Axie Infinity lets players seek out two different assets—The SLP and the AXS Tokens. It is part of a new trend in gaming called play-to-earn, meaning users earn when they play. 

An Axie is a creature used to battle and explore in the Axie marketplace. Each Axie can take various forms, as more than 500 body parts are available. These body parts have characters that include aquatic, birds, beasts, plants, bugs, and reptiles. The body parts come in four rarity scales, common, rare, ultra-rare, and legendary. Additionally, each Axie can come in a combination of these body parts, making them extremely rare and unique. The Axie also has unique strengths and weaknesses based on its genes.

The Axie Infinity ecosystem features a variety of Axies and maintains a distinctive governance token. Community members take part in important governance events using the token, and it also gives owners voting power on how the community’s treasury is spent.

Axie Infinity value fluctuates and varies, just like most cryptocurrencies. As a result, the value of Axie NFTs can differ considerably. While players can make a significant amount of money, value fluctuations can also reduce the value of their Axie collections quickly.

Axie Infinity is rated 18+, but players under 18 can play with parental permission. Although it has an age restriction, it has no age verification process. When users sign up to Axie with their crypto wallet, it allows under-18 players to play with parental permission. The age restriction on the site helps discourage children who have little or no understanding of the consequences of the real money they’re spending by using the platform.

Axie Infinity offers a variety of Axies with unique gameplay capabilities. Each Axie has six potential body features. These options produce an endless variety for users to choose from. Additionally, Axie may have weak or strong capabilities depending on the player's body part combinations.

Axie Infinity has a specific side-chain called Ronin that its developers designed to support specific user activities. Ronin helps Axie Infinity users enjoy near-instant confirmations of their transactions, lowers gas fees, and enables the Axie Infinity platform to scale its community and offers.

Axie Infinity has a coin available to trade on numerous exchange platforms such as Binance, Huobi Global, Coinbase, FTX, Bithumb, Kucoin, and Gate.io, and it uses the ticker symbol AXS. However, it maintains a community on its website.

Axie Infinity has a key engagement gating mechanism to curb exploitation. The NFT platform uses this key engagement mechanism to manage SLP inflation and Axie leveling up. This gating mechanism helps prevent exploitative behaviors from some players in the gaming environment, such as excessive grinding and botting. The maximum amount of energy a player can hold and its refill rate at any point in time is directly connected to the number of Axies a player owns.

Axie Infinity runs on the Ethereum blockchain and uses an ERC-20 token which keeps them secure using the Proof-of-Work consensus mechanism of Ethereum.

Axie Infinity is inspired by popular games such as Pokemon and Tamagotchi. The pokemon style design makes it visually appealing to children and adults alike. It also creates a feeling of reference and familiarity for Axie’s users.

Axie Infinity has a manager and scholar’s scheme. It is quite expensive to join the game, except participants use the Axie Infinity manager and scholar scheme. Managers are players who have been in the game since it started or have accumulated a large collection of Axies. Managers give their Axies to players (scholars) who can’t afford the initial purchase price for a fraction of their gameplay earnings. However, this system has raised concerns among players. Some players feel that some managers are concerned with building and growing the community, while others are more interested in exploiting scholars.

Axie Infinity allows players to create, i.e., mint, new Axies by breeding. Two existing Axies can breed to create, or mint, a new Axie. Breeding costs AXS and SLP. Unlike other NFT-based combat and breeding games, each Axie can only be bred a total of seven times to control the population of Axies.  Each Axie has different attributes and strengths. They can enter into 3v3 battles to earn more experience (exp) points, level up stats, or evolve their body parts. 

Axie Infinity has a finite and infinite supply of resources. The AXS token is a finite resource. It has a limited supply of tokens. There are only about 270,000,000 in the game. AXS is an Ethereum-based token, players who have it possess governing rights. This means they can make decisions about its future. If the progression continues, they may buy out Sky Mavis (owners of the Game) and run a fully decentralized economy on the game. The SLP (Small Lovers Potion), on the other hand, is infinite. It has an unlimited supply. It is the resource needed to breed Axies. Players can earn it by playing adventure games or arena matches or completing daily tasks.

Axie Infinity maintains a mating hub to help players find suitable matches to breed their Axies. Once a suitable match is found, Axies stand the chance of producing rare and powerful offspring, which may increase the player’s chances within the community.
