DTube Features and Reviews

DTube is a decentralized video platform built on the STEEM blockchain that allows users to earn its token by uploading and viewing videos.

DTube is powered by IPFS and the STEEM blockchain. And, it aims to become a substitute to YouTube by allowing users to watch or upload videos while earning cryptocurrency doing so.  However, due to the decentralized nature of IPFS and the STEEM blockchain, DTube cannot censor nor enforce guidelines on videos. Only users on the platform can do so through the power of their upvotes and downvotes.

The platform promises that no hidden algorithms control the visibility or monetization of certain videos over others.  Anyone with an internet connection can access and analyze DTube's data as it is public. DTube does not stream advertisements. But users have the freedom to advertise directly inside of their videos to their subscribers.

DTube grew in 20 months to 189,000 registered creators and curators, acquiring 2.1 million monthly unique visitors, and has distributed 1.1 Million coins to its community. To use the platform, users must create a DTube account. Users can then login with their username and private key. Users can also login to their Hive or STEEM account using the same method.

Using the DTube coin is divided into four categories. For players, it requires users to hold the DTC to post, vote, comment, and tag videos and in return, earn rewards. For advertisers, it requires them to use their DTC to promote videos on the platform. For fans, they can support their favorite creators and curator using the "donate DTC" feature. However, viewers need to spend their DTC to access premium content.

Feature details

DTube moderates content by protecting users' privacy using DTuber’s upvotes and downvotes. The platform works from the paradigm that social media platforms have broken the trust of users due to their inability to moderate content efficiently, protect user privacy and operate with utmost transparency. The model of collecting personal data, ad pressure, and promoting content virality over quality through the suggestion algorithms made these possible.

To reignite trust with social media users, DTube and the DTube Chain rely on cryptography, transparency, open-source, and decentralized technologies. Creators post their original creations to the censorship-resistant decentralized infrastructure provided by DTube, and moderation is regulated by millions of users who block unsuitable content and apparent copyright violation.

DTube is 100 percent ads-free. The DTube Chain promises a new paradigm based on transparency, user empowerment, and justice by replacing advertising with its social blockchain. DTube is ads-free and does not gather any personal data from its users due to its tokenized business approach. Also, it is 100 percent community-powered, and 90% of the value created is distributed to its users.

DTube holds its database on the Avalon Blockchain. DTube enforces decentralization by separating its hosting needs from the database querying using the Avalon blockchain. The use of the Avalon blockchain is a logical fit because it’s quick and free; anyone can use it without having to deposit any money, and it has no transaction fees.

DTube maintains a GitHub account to promote open-source version control and collaboration on its codes.  GitHub is a code hosting platform for version control and collaboration. It allows users to collaborate on projects from anywhere. And DTube uses it to attract open source code contributors.

DTube allows users to acquire and replenish their Voting Power. Voting power is the ability to curate content using a user’s staked-up DTC, and it replenishes at a rate of +1 VP / DTC / hour based on their DTC.

DTube stores static data using IPFS. IPFS is a peer-to-peer hypermedia protocol developed to protect and expand humanity's understanding by making the web upgradeable and open. And DTube  uses the DHT networks, which hash contents to identify a file. And this helps ensures that rehashed files sent to DTube are original

DTube is actively expanding its language availability through Crowdin. Crowdin is a cloud-based solution that facilitates localization management and helps manage multilingual content. DTube uses it to keep all multilingual content in one place.

DTube uses IPFS and the STEEM blockchain to prevent censorship but relies on its users’ votes to elevate or censor content. DTube is unable to censor films or enforce restrictions due to the decentralized nature of IPFS and the STEEM blockchain." Only the users, through their upvotes and downvotes, can censor it.

DTube uses the utility token DTC to reward video creators in its network. DTC is a currency of the blockchain, a utility token for videos. Every day, the Avalon blockchain generates new DTC. As an incentive, these newly produced DTCs are distributed.

DTubers are paid with DTube Coins when they produce original content or share a video from the web. As well as when they vote, tag, and comment on a video.

DTube offers web videos that are 100% curated by DTubers and protect advertisers’ brand images. The curator - a DTube user can publish a video either by URL posting - which is for those that want their AD revenue active for the content they created elsewhere and IPFS posting - for those that want their content from abusive censorship.

DTube curates the best videos on the internet entirely through DTuber postings, upvotes, and tags, with moderation handled by millions of DTuber downvotes.

DTube pays users to use the platform using a reward pool system. The reward pool is a fixed point of DTube tokens allocated to the network reward fund. These are distributed to authors and curators for posting and voting of content.

DTube has no file size limits and has no limit to the number of videos users can upload. There's no maximum file size, but your browser may crash for large files, and that depends on the browser.  And when users use DTube uploader for their videos, some limitations might apply to file size.

Compared to centralized platforms, DTube is the best substitute. As a decentralized video platform built on the STEEM blockchain that allows users to earn its token by uploading and viewing videos, it protects users' privacy, has no file limits, promotes open-source control, is ad-free, and more. That has helped to recreate trust broken by other platforms. No hidden algorithms as anyone with an internet connection can access DTube data as it is public.
